Mount Vernon, OH - This past weekend, the WAU Men's Basketball team traveled to Mount Vernon, Ohio, to compete in the MVNU Classic. Unfortunately, the team faced back-to-back losses, falling to Taylor University on Friday with a score of 77-59 and Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday with a final score of 94-79.
The first game against Taylor proved to be a challenging one for WAU. Despite a valiant effort, they struggled to find their rhythm from the start. Taylor showcased their offensive prowess, swiftly gaining a lead they did not relinquish throughout the game. The WAU defense fought hard to contain their opponents but could not stifle Taylor's scoring efforts. The final score of 77-59 reflected Taylor's ability to lead every column on the stat sheet.
The Shock finished with three players in double figures. James Lee led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 16 points; Tunde Scrivner finished with 14 points; and Mohamed Bundu finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
Saturday's game against Mount Vernon Nazarene promised a chance at redemption for the Shock. However, they were again unable to overcome their opponents' offensive strength. MVNU demonstrated excellent teamwork and a high execution level, causing significant difficulties for the WAU defense. WAU's offense displayed great potential, but their efforts were not enough to close the gap. The game concluded with a final score of 94-79, resulting in another defeat for the visiting team.
