WAU Men's Basketball Falls to WVU Tech, 83-72

BECKLEY, WV - The WAU men's basketball team (3-5) dropped a hard-fought battle as West Virginia Tech clinched an 83-72 victory over WAU at Beckley Convention Center.

Isaiah Anderson poured in a team-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, adding eight rebounds and two assists.

Derrick Hopkins and James Lee were equally impressive, also scoring in double-figures. Hopkins finished with 14 points and four steals, while Lee recorded his fifth double-figure scoring game this season. Lee finished with 13 points and three rebounds.

The Golden Bears made an early statement, jumping out to a 9-0 lead three minutes into the game. After being down, the Shock went on a 13-4 run to tie the game at the 13-minute mark. After that, the Golden Bears went on an 11-2 run, which opened the game up for WVU Tech.

The Golden Bears maintained control of the first half, shooting 50 percent (14-of-28) from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line, leading to the 40-33 halftime advantage.

WVU Tech continued their momentum into the second half, but a made jumper by Mohamed Bundu, assisted by Derrick Hopkins, gave the Shock the one-point advantage with ten minutes left in the game.

After four lead changes, the Shock did not have an answer for the Golden Bear's Braden Chapmen, as he scored his 28th point on the night with a pair of made free throws with 45 seconds left on the clock. WAU continued to battle, but unfortunately, it was not enough, and WVU Tech sealed an 83-72 victory.

WAU finished 49.1 percent from the field and 76 percent from the charity stripe. The Shock converted 13 points off turnovers and forced the Golden Bears into 12 turnovers.
