Shyheim Gilkerson enters his role on the Washington Adventist University men’s basketball coaching staff as an alumnus of the Shock program. A former guard for WAU, Gilkerson established himself as a versatile player known for his defensive energy, court awareness, and team-oriented approach.

Following his collegiate playing career, Gilkerson transitioned into coaching and player development, where he has built a foundation in teaching guard play, instilling defensive principles, and mentoring student-athletes on the demands of collegiate basketball. His experience as both a player and coach provides him with valuable insight into developing student-athletes and guiding them to reach their full potential.

Gilkerson’s return to WAU strengthens the program with a coach who understands the university’s culture and values. His commitment to discipline, hard work, and continuous improvement adds depth to the staff and supports the team’s ongoing pursuit of excellence.
