WAU Drops Nailbiter to Morgan State, 57-59

BALTIMORE, MD - On Monday, Washington Adventist University's women's basketball team suffered a nail-biting 59-57 defeat against NCAA Division I, Morgan State University, in a gripping battle that went down to the wire. The high-intensity clash took place in front of a raucous crowd at the Hill Field House in Baltimore, MD.

Despite being the underdogs in the contest, WAU displayed tremendous resilience and competitive spirit against their Division I opponent. The unique matchup between these two teams from different collegiate divisions promised an exhilarating encounter, and the players did not disappoint.

Both teams showcased their determination to dominate the game from the initial tip-off. The Shock's offense initially held the upper hand, executing sharp plays and displaying remarkable shooting accuracy. Their ability to score consistently forced the Bear's defense to dig deep and find ways to counter their opponents' offensive prowess.

WAU settled into their rhythm, showcasing excellent teamwork and efficient ball movement. They started to extend the gap, with their players combining effective drives to the basket with perimeter shots. The efforts of players such as Kelly Luck and Sole Carroll were notable, driving the Shock's offensive charge to a 29-20 advantage at the half.

With each passing quarter, the contest intensified as both teams relentlessly fought. Morgan State's perseverance was complemented by their strong defense, providing stiff opposition to WAU's offense. The team's relentless ability to contest shots and secure vital rebounds allowed them to stay within striking distance and win the third quarter by three points.

As the final quarter loomed, the Bear's determination remained unwavering. Their spirited defense caused turnovers, which became crucial baskets on the other end. The momentum shifted in favor of the home team, and an upset started to slip away.

However, WAU, a seasoned NAIA program, would not relinquish its lead easily. They responded with a renewed sense of urgency, capitalizing on their experience and executing vital plays. With a few minutes left to go in the game, the Bears tied the Shock 56-56. Morgan State sank two free throws with seconds left on the clock to seal the victory.

Although the final scoreboard showed a margin of only two points in favor of Morgan State, WAU's women's basketball team can hold their heads high. They delivered a commendable performance that deserved accolades, pushing a Division I team to the edge.

"We believe in us, and it showed tonight," head coach Jered Lyons said. "We fell short, but we will keep getting better."

The Shock shot 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the field, with 11 of its makes coming from long range. Luck led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 14 points, while Carroll followed with 11 points.
