WAU Women’s Basketball Falls to Morgan State University, 85-45

Baltimore, MD The Washington Adventist University (WAU) women's basketball team faced a challenging matchup against NCAA Division I opponent Morgan State University on Wednesday, November 20, falling 85-45 at Hill Field House.

The Shock came out with energy, looking to keep pace with the Bears in the early minutes of the game. Deryanis Colon Velez sparked the offense with the first Shock basket, and WAU's defense forced turnovers to keep the score close. However, Morgan State's athleticism and depth began to show as they closed the first quarter with a 20-7 lead.

In the second quarter, the Bears extended their advantage, capitalizing on fast-break opportunities and controlling the boards. Despite the deficit, WAU continued to battle, with Tye Queen leading the scoring effort and Colon Velez adding key defensive stops. The Shock trailed 24-38 at halftime.

The second half saw WAU display moments of strong play, including a 4-0 run to start the third quarter fueled by Sanaa Morrow. However, Morgan State's size and shooting accuracy proved too much for the Shock to overcome.

The Shock shot 33.3 percent (15-of-45) from the field, with three of its makes coming from long range. Colon Velez and Queen led the Shock in scoring finishing with 10 points each, while Armani Ball followed with 9 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Morrow (7), Lujan-Gonzales (3), and Abby Bryant (2) also found the scoring column. Eight Shock players saw time on the floor.

With the loss, WAU's record moves to 4-4. The Shock will look to bounce back in their next game against Shawnee State in Portsmouth, OH on Saturday, November 23.
