Pedro Power Named Head Coach of WAU Women’s Soccer Program

TAKOMA PARK, MD - Washington Adventist University has announced the appointment of Pedro Enrique Power Melgar as Head Women's Soccer Coach. Power brings a diverse coaching background, collegiate playing experience, and a strong commitment to player development and academic success.

Power most recently served as a head coach for the Alexandria Soccer Association, leading multiple teams and developing high-level training curricula. He also plays an active role in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program as a Virginia State Assistant Coach and Northern Virginia District Head Coach, fostering talent and growth at the state and regional levels.

"I'm excited to join Washington Adventist University and contribute to the growth of the Women's Soccer Program," Power said. "I look forward to building a competitive and dynamic team that excels on and off the field."

Power holds a Master of Arts in World Language Education from Valdosta State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the College of Coastal Georgia. His coaching credentials include the U.S. Soccer Federation "C" License (2024) and "D" License (2023). He is currently enrolled in the U.S. Soccer National "B" License program.

Before his role at Alexandria, Power served as Head Varsity Boys Soccer Coach at Brunswick High School (Ga.), where he led the team to a historic second-place finish in the region and was named 6A Georgia State Coach of the Year in 2022. His coaching career also includes time with the Southern Soccer Academy and as director of the Hispanic Soccer League of Brunswick.

A former collegiate athlete, Power played two years at USC Salkehatchie, serving as team captain in his sophomore year. He then transferred to Trinity Baptist College, where he helped his team win the NCCAA South Region Championship and compete in the NCCAA National Tournament.

Beyond coaching, Power is dedicated to education and community service. He has taught Spanish at Northwood High School (Md.) and Brunswick High School (Ga.), and has volunteered with Coastal Outreach Soccer, mentoring at-risk youth and promoting positive development through sport.

Power's leadership and passion for soccer are expected to have an immediate impact on the WAU Women's Soccer Program. The university is excited to welcome him as the team continues to grow in skill, competitiveness, and character.
