WINONA LAKE, IN - After finishing as runner-up to the CAC Men's Basketball Tournament Champions Florida College, WAU men's basketball earned an automatic bid as the No. 16 seed in the Naismith Quadrant of the 86th annual NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament bracket on March 15-16, in the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center in Winona Lake, IN. The NAIA announced its inaugural 64-team bracket on Thursday, March 7th. This is the third season with a complete tournament under the new format with combined divisions after fielding 48 teams in 2021.
The Shock enters the first round of the tournament with Mohamed Bundu, Isaiah Anderson, and Tunde Scrivner leading the way after receiving CAC Men's Basketball All-Conference honors. Bundu was named first-team all-conference, and Anderson and Scrivner were named second-team all-conference. Michael Brown also received Champions of Character honors, while Derrick Hopkins and Anderson were named to the All-Tournament team.
"I am so proud of Moe," said head coach Jerry McFarland. "He has had as good of a year on both ends of the floor as anyone in the country. He plays the game the right way, and he also represents what we have been talking about over the last few years. I am going to miss coaching him. His postseason accolades are about his teammates, which is a testament to his character. Moe is an easy selection as 1st team All-Conference, and it's great to see the other coaches in our league feel the same way I do."
"Isaiah is really tough to guard, and he is a match-up problem for other teams, McFarland said. "He is a strong post player who is also very skilled and has a high basketball IQ. He has really made an impact on how we play and how teams have to adjust to account for him. This honor is well deserved, and I am proud of him. Isaiah has proven he is an All-Conference player."
"Congratulations to Tunde," McFarland said. "He really deserves this honor. He has been the difference in our team. We lost both of our point guards from last season, and Tunde came in and gave us everything we wanted and more at the position. I wish I had more than one season to coach him, but I am thankful for the season I got. Tunde is special. He led us in scoring and assists. He will also leave holding the school record of 10 threes made in 1 game. He is an All-Conference player."
The Shock (18-10) will face one-seeded host Grace College on Friday, March 15th, at 5:00 PM.
